Word today from a 20+ year vet of the Forest Service. 11 in the White Mountains are out of work now. One took the buyout that was offered, and after their resignation was accepted, they were told “you don’t qualify for the buyout”. Every single one of these forestry staffers never had a black mark on their record. All good reviews, all with time in. The reason for being let go? Poor job performance. Trails will be shutting down because of this, for all my hiking friends. It’s not an “if” it’s a definite. Edit, a friend reached out with a more accurate breakdown:
11 staff from the WMNF were terminated. However, none of them were from the Pemi District. There were 2 in the Supervisors Office in Campton, 5 on the Saco District and 4 on the Andro District. the 9 at the district level were all dispersed recreation and visitor services. For sure there will be closures due to staffing.
Trumpers, YOU did this.
